Five Songs on My iPod

I've been feeling the need to go through the old memes again, and I did this one way back in 2007--I think it was when I'd first moved back into the dorms, which puts it sometime in the Spring semester of '07.
Anyway, time to do it again.
1. Blues Traveler - "Heart Brings You Back"
Oddly enough, I added this song to my iPod based on a YouTube video that featured a comedian ranting about how Pachelbel's "Canon in D" had the worst cello part in the history of cello parts. Apparently, Canon is haunting him, and he can't get away to it, no matter where he goes, or what he listens to. The main reason I added this song is because it reminded me of a video that made me laugh--humor's important to me, because I'd rather laugh about it than cry about it.
2. Josh Groban - "You Raise Me Up"
They played this at my high school graduation; one of my classmate's little sisters plays violin, and it was really beautiful. Mostly I can take or leave choral music, and religious-themed music mostly sets my teeth on edge, but I'll forgive a lot for the sake of a good violin part. I don't know, there's just something about the violin that appeals to me on a deep and emotional level; I'm disproportionately filled with trivia about the instrument, considering that I don't play it, nor do I know anyone well who plays it either. I just think it's lovely.
3. Panic! At The Disco - "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage"
I swear, I didn't even cheat to get this song to come up, but if you find and track my del.icio.us account, you'd see that it's filled with bandom recs, and Panic! (although they discarded the ! on their sophomore album, that comes out soon!!) has a huge percentage of the entries on the account. This is my new fandom (well, the FBR bands, plus MCR), and it is consuming my life, and I'm fairly complacent about letting it. I love Panic! completely without irony, and have no concept of why I should be embarrassed by this love.
4. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - "Mary Jane's Last Dance"
The first time I heard this song, I think I was in the 2nd grade. The drug references went completely over my head. I couldn't for the life of my understand why my mother didn't want my sisters and I to listen to it. I just like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, I didn't see what the big deal was then, and considering that despite the drug references that abound in a LOT of the music I listen to and I still haven't even tried pot, my mother had nothing to worry about. But in a small way, this song reminds me of rebelling against my mom, doing what I liked because it wasn't hurting anybody else and her restrictions were petty.
5. Lewis Black - "Tax Rebates and Common Sense"
I'm a huge Lewis Black fan; I DVR his Comedy Central specials, bought two of his albums off of iTunes, and this is one of the tracks from his "The End of the Universe" album. He's incredibly sarcastic, caustic, and bitter, and his dark sense of humor appeals to mine. He mocks the shit out of everyone and everything, and his complete irreverence is exactly what I need when I'm pissed off but not homicidal.
